The Box
Made of tough white cardboard that will stand the test of time as a keepsake box, this 8 1/2" wide x 10" long x 5 1/2" deep box features steel, nickel plated rivets and corners and handy front label holder. Included in the box:
The Practical Baby Book, a 35-page 4 1/4" by 5 1/2" full color, illustrated manual built on decades of experience having and raising babies (see more information below), a package of white all-purpose baby socks, mom socks, two real burp cloths for real mothers with real (messy) babies, a baby swaddler, two 100% cotton long-sleeve onesies (necessary basics for every outfit and one 100% cotton white crib sheet (the basic clothing for the real baby bed). Each item is labeled with instructions explaining their purpose, care instructions and use as well as why they are the practical item for the practical parent. A small clipping from each label is included below.
Baby socks: White, all-purpose baby socks - "As with so many other things, you'll end up with a drawer full of cute, frilly, decorated socks and booties. Consider these white baby socks as the basic unit. I use socks like these under cute things to hold them on or I use them alone when I don't feel there is anyone to impress (really, your baby won't notice plain, practical apparel) ..."
Mom socks: Comfortable, new, soft mom-socks for that trip to the hospital (and for nights when you're exhausted and just need something special for you). "Having a baby is hard work and your feet can get cold - in more ways than one! It seems like a simple thing but there are few things as nice as slipping on a clean pair of new socks." ...
The Burp Cloth for Real Parents: Two 100% cotton bar towels. "For some reason they have beautified burp clothes into cute little frilly things that in reality, have little practical use. These bar towels are for the messes that real babies make." ...
Swaddler: A fancy new invention for an old tried-and-true practice of swaddling babies. "Young babies (usually 6 weeks and younger) like to be swaddled. Free use of limbs is something new to them and a bit scary." ... Base Unit - Onesies: Two 100% cotton onesies. "These shirts are great to use under almost anything and they are good at holding everything in place. Cute little sweaters won't itch and ride up when anchored by one of these. The are great over tights and leggings to hold them in place. To keep hand covers (aka white baby socks) on." ...
Basic White Crib Sheet: One 100% cotton crib sheet (fits most regular sized cribs). "You will probably have a whole shelf of cute, decorated, high thread count, Egyptian cotton crib sheets (or maybe not). There will be times however when what you need to achieve is washable, bleachable, sometimes disposable clean bedding. Plain white is very good for this. It matches nothing and everything... I consider these to be part of my sanity pack: Those things that make my life easier and less stressful." ...
The Practical Baby Book: (From the back of the book) Congratulations! You're going to have a new baby in your life. At this point it seems there is an insurmountable amount of things to think about and do. Even when I was having my fifth baby I felt overwhelmed by it all. You would think that by baby number five I would have figured it out. I did learn a few things along the way though. I have built on the ideas in this book through the years as I have figured out new things or tried things that have been a miserable failure. I've tried to incorporate my experience from both.
There are a few things I have learned along the way. Humility. Keep a sense of humor. Do not overthink things. Enjoy. You will be told repeatedly that the baby years fly by and you will most likely not believe it. But they do. Having a baby will change you and it should. Anything this amazing should be life changing. So I'll say it again: Don't overthink things and ENJOY!"
